The second RVM Network Championship was held on 19 August 2009, at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall, Bangalore. Heralding to increase awareness among school children about humanitarian causes and efforts, the Championship had participants from13 prestigious city schools like Bishop Cotton’s Boys High School, Sacred Hearts Girls High School, St. Joseph’s Boys High School, Jain Heritage School among others. The objective of the championship was to inculcate in children the value of human life and the need to make a positive difference to the world around. Over a month’s time, each participating school had to prepare a humanitarian project. Among the participating schools, 11 schools were shortlisted to make a presentation of their projects. Amidst 11 presentations, 4 stood out prominently. Sacred Hearts High School bagged the first prize of Rs. 1 lakh for doing exemplary humanitarian work. They conducted a food fete in their school premises and collected Rs. 30,000. They used the money to give away lunch boxes to people living on the streets, donated medicines and clothes to the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology. They donated Rs. 5000 to the NGO "Respect for Life India" and donated clothes to NGO “Angel Nest.” St. Joseph Convent Girls High School won the second prize for their innovative concept of making a difference in 30 ways in 30 days. They had arranged for events on a daily basis and it had events like Environment Day, Haircut Day, Literacy Day, Traffic Regulation Day among other remarkable events. The students’ humanitarian efforts were greatly appreciated and they won Rs. 30,000 cash prize. St. Anne’s School bagged the third prize for having visited 6 slums and 13 NGOs and having distributed snacks, clothes, candles and mosquito coils. The students also formed a group called “Each One Teach One” to educate poor children for 2 hours every day. The school won Rs. 20,000 as cash prize. St. Aloysius High School visited a slum and identified 21 people who were in need of urgent medical care. They also distributed snacks, rice, flour and sugar; cleaned the clothes; cleaned the garbage area in the slum, teaching the residents hygiene and the art of signing their names.
